Our Mission Statement

Alger Parks and Rec formed in 2012, after several interested parties met to discuss the needs of our community. A former incarnation of Alger Parks and Rec fell by the wayside several years earlier, thus the desire to fill a void. We became a 501c3 in October of 2018.

    Our organization’s goals are to:

      1. Provide programs, special events, and facilities to stimulate the socialization, safety, good health and the physical development of the individual and family, as related to the needs and interests of our residents.
      2. Provide programs, special events, and facilities to stimulate our local economy.
      3. Encourage the use of all community facilities such as parks, libraries, schools and the like.
      4. Coordinate programs where possible with Moffatt Township and Arenac County.
      5. Provide a diverse organization that communicates openly through teamwork.
      6. Anticipate the area’s needs for future generations.

Our biggest yearly fundraiser, Music in the Park, provides a majority of our support via gate sales, food and refreshments, and of course our wonderful raffle items kindly donated by local area businesses. Secondly, we rely on donations from generous individuals and corporations, and pursue available grants in order to fulfill our funding needs.

Since its inception, we’ve made several improvements to Moffatt Township Park, including the planting of maple trees, installation of a beautiful Playscape, adding a handicapped swing, upgrading the t-ball field, repairing and painting existing structures, benches and picnic tables, installing a new park signs, and installing solar lighting.

We schedule yearly events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Moffatt Township food basket distributions, Trunk or Treat, Summer Camp Scholarships, and the Children’s Christmas party. In addition, we meet May through July for Alger Ball (t-ball/softball/baseball), supplying youngsters with ball equipment, and team t-shirts.

Finally yet importantly, we rely on you, our volunteers, to make every venture a success – it’s all a community effort!
